Roadmap for Terrestrial Carbon Science: Research needs for carbon management in agriculture, forestry and other land uses
This report, produced in partnership with UN‐REDD agencies, the World Bank, and CGIAR institutions, identifies scientific and technical advancements needed to accelerate avoided emissions and sequestration of terrestrial carbon. Across a wide range of geographic scales and land classes, there is a need for a coherent, integrated information base for effective land management practices that produce real increases in sequestration together with real reductions in GHG emissions from terrestrial sources, and transparent, consistent, and comparable quantification of changes in carbon stocks.

A System to Deliver Terrestrial Carbon Mitigation (REDD+ to AFOLU): Functions, Institutions and Transition Pathways
This report identifies the key components of a flexible multinational incentive system to deliver climate change mitigation from terrestrial carbon management. Specifically, “what needs to be done” (the functions) to create and maintain the system, and “who could fulfil these functions” (ie, which institutions). It also considers how the system can be scaled up from the immediately possible to the ultimately necessary. It draws on ideas, lessons and precedents in the existing carbon incentive schemes (encompassing CDM and JI), existing REDD+ proposals, and other analogous commodity markets.

Background Paper: Measuring and Monitoring Terrestrial Carbon
This report, produced in partnership with FAO/UN-REDD, reviews existing methods to measure and monitor terrestrial carbon, with a focus on the above-ground biomass pool, and evaluates their suitability under different scopes for the inclusion of terrestrial carbon in an international agreement (i.e. RED/REDD/REDD+/AFOLU). It includes recommendations for clarifying international guidance and enhancing national-scale implementation.
